Ázia stredná
Železnice v stredoázijskích krajinách (Turkménsko, Uzbekistan, Afganistan, Pakistan, Kazachstan, Kirgizsko, Tadžikistan, India, ...) sa tešia síce obľube obyvateľstva, avšak vďaka nie veľmi dobrému stavu tratí a vozidiel tu dochádza nezriedka k nehodám .
Badateľný však je, i keď len mierny, záujem o postupné zlepšenie tohoto stavu.
http://www.railwaygazette.com/ , 01. 06. 2006 - Do r. 2015 pribudene v Kazachstane 2000 km nových tratí v rámci 10-ročného Národného plánu rozvoja - zverejnil minister dopravy Askar Mamin koncom apríla.

Trans-Karakum link completed
http://www.railwaygazette.com/ 01. April 2006 - PRESIDENT Sparmurat Niyazov of Turkmenistan participated in ceremonies on February 8 to mark completion of the 540 km Trans-Karakum railway from Ashkabad to Dasoguz.
Congratulating the 1500 staff who built the line across the Karakum desert over the past five years, the President expressed a hope that the 'golden link' would form part of an important transit corridor between Europe and the Persian Gulf, offering the most direct route to the Iranian border at Sarakhs and thence via the recently-opened Mashhad - Bafgh line (RG 6.05 p319).
The line will have eight stations, including Darvaza where a locomotive depot is being built at the mid-point of the route. It cuts the rail distance from the capital to the north of the country by more than 700 km, and avoids a short section where the former Soviet main line runs through Uzbekistan. The new route is expected to open up mineral and gas reserves in the region.
Turkmenistan's Ministry of Railways announced that the first train would run on February 19 to mark national Flag Day, with regular services expected to start during March. Journey time for the daily Ashkabad - Dasoguz passenger service will be under 12 h, compared to 28 h 15 min for the present daily through train via Türkmenabad.
The service will be worked by a new trainset formed of two diesel locos, eight coaches and a generator car, which were delivered to Ashkabat in January (above). TPK is buying 48 locos, 30 sleeping cars and 20 coaches from China under a US$128m agreement with Capital-Longji Sci-Tech Co, and 480 freight wagons from builders in Russia and Ukraine.

Second Indo-Pakistan link open
http://www.railwaygazette.com/ 01. April 2006 - CROSS-BORDER services between Khokhropar in Pakistan and Munabao in India were revived following the departure of the first Thar Express from Karachi at 11.00 on February 17.
Railways Minister Shamim Haider and the Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan were among official guests who attended a ceremony to mark the departure of the specially-decorated seven-coach train, which Pakistan's Ministry of Railways said carried more than 320 passengers.
The train called at Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas and 'Zero Point', arriving in Munabao at 12.30 the following day. Munabao station has been rebuilt at a cost of Rs120m, and at Zero Point a border post has been specially built 100m inside the Indian frontier to minimise the distance passengers will travel either side of the border fences without passing through security checks. Zero Point station is only accessible to Thar Express passengers.
The Thar Express will run weekly, operated by Pakistan Railways for the first six months and then by India's North Western Railway for the next six months. It is the second rail service between the two countries to be reinstated, and is expected to attract 70% of the passengers who currently use the Lahore - Atari - Amritsar route.
The 7·5 km from Khokhropar to the border and the 2·5 km on to Munabao had been abandoned after the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965, and had to be rebuilt over eight months to allow services to resume. The railways took the opportunity to convert the line from metre to broad gauge, in tandem with PR's regauging of the 118 km Khokhropar to Mipur Khas.

http://www.railjournal.com/ , February 22, 2006 - Completion of the 540km Trans-Karakum railway in the central Asian republic of Turkmenistan has reduced the rail route from the capital, Ashgabat, to the administrative centre, Dashoguz, by 700km. It has taken more than five years to build the line across the Karakum desert.
The northern and southern sections of the railway were linked up at kilometre 440 on February 8. Services are due to be inaugurated in March. The president of the former Soviet republic, Mr Sapamurat Niyazov, said the line would aid regional development and become an important transit corridor between Europe, Asia, and the Far East to the Persian Gulf.

tak som to "doma" skontroloval podla lepsej mapy (Hildebrand GUS, 1:3mil, 2004) a:
v afganistane maju dve trate. jedna vedie z uzbeckeho termezu (vlasten zo stanicky galaba)cez most priatelstva cez amudarju do chajrabadu (kheyrabad, chajraton), asi 15km. 1520mm rozchod, povodne mala ist az do kabulu a dalej do pakistanu. ten most postavili v 1979-80, otvorili v 1982 , okrem cesty nesie aj zeleznicu a ropovod. ropovod sa udajne nepouzival nikdy, zeleznica len do roku 1989 na vojenske ucely (stahovanie sovietsky vojakov). uzbekistan most zavrel v r.1997 a znovu ho otvorili az v 2001. zatial funguje len cesta.
